Robert (Bob) Allen Cammidge

May 3, 1940 - September 15, 2026

Robert (Bob) Allen Cammidge passed away peacefully after a courageous journey following a stroke. He spent his final years at the Myron Thompson Health Centre in Sundre, surrounded by the care and compassion of those who looked after him.

Bob was born on May 3, 1940, in Victoria, British Columbia. In 1942, his family returned to their hometown of Bashaw, Alberta, where Bob spent his formative years and developed a lifelong connection to the community he would later serve so faithfully.

After graduating from high school, Bob pursued carpentry studies in Swift Current, Saskatchewan. It was there that he met Judy Wallace, the young woman who would become his first wife. Bob and Judy were married in 1965 and together welcomed two children: Brenda in 1969 and Wallace in 1972. Although their marriage later ended, Bob remained proud of the family they created together.

Bob later married Marion Hausauer, a widow with five children, and together they built a loving blended family. His career as a building inspector with the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) took them to Terrace, British Columbia. Northern B.C. quickly captured Bob's heart. He loved the mountains, the rivers, and the endless beauty of nature. Fishing was one of his greatest passions, and he often joked that his dream was to wake up in the morning and catch his breakfast. The outdoors brought him peace and joy throughout his life.

Upon retirement, Bob and Marion returned to Bashaw. Retirement did not slow him down. Instead, it marked the beginning of a new chapter of community service and leadership. Bob immersed himself in local organizations, becoming an active member of both the Elks Club and Ducks Unlimited. He was instrumental in the revival and renovation of the historic Majestic Theatre in downtown Bashaw, helping preserve an important piece of the town's heritage for future generations.

Bob's commitment to Bashaw extended to municipal government. He served three terms on Bashaw Town Council and was honored to serve two terms as Mayor. He cared deeply about his community and dedicated countless hours to helping Bashaw grow and prosper.

In 2010, Bob experienced the heartbreaking loss of Marion, the love of his life, after her battle with Parkinson's disease. Following her passing, he downsized and moved to Red Deer. To his surprise and delight, love found him again when he met Pauline Johnson. Together, Bob and Pauline embraced life to the fullest, creating treasured memories through family gatherings, travel, and new adventures. Sadly, Pauline too was taken from him, another profound loss in his life.

Despite the challenges he faced in his later years, Bob remained resilient, appreciative of family, and grateful for a life rich with meaningful relationships, service, and adventure.

Bob will be remembered for his deep love of the outdoors, his unwavering dedication to his community, and his quiet nature. While he could sometimes be a little gruff or grumpy, those who knew him best understood the kind heart, strong values, and gentle sense of humor that lay beneath the surface. Whether casting a line into a river, volunteering for a community project, or sharing stories with family and friends, Bob lived life in a way that left a lasting impression on those around him. His legacy of service, resilience, and love for family and community will be treasured by all who knew him.

Bob leaves to cherish his memory his daughter, Brenda (Joe) and family; his son, Wallace and family; his stepson, Larry (Joan) and family; his stepdaughters, Donna (Howard) and family and Anita (Dave) and family; as well as numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended family members, and friends. He was predeceased by his beloved wife Marion and partner Pauline, and by his stepdaughter, Jayne, and stepson, Richard. Bob also leaves behind, and will be fondly remembered, by Jayne's and Richard's families.

His legacy lives on in the family he loved, the friendships he nurtured, and the community he helped shape. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing
him.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made directly to the Sundre Hospital Ladies Auxiliary.

A private family celebration of Robert’s life will take place at a later date.
